Current version of LanSafe will not work if glibc-2.3.3-98.61. WORKAROUND : Please revert your System to older version of glibc. ITEM : PowerPC Serial Port not detected ITEM # : n/a DESCRIPTION: This is because your Power 5 may not contain built in serial port or serial port on your Power 5 PC may be of type "virtual" connection like S1 and S2. These can be used for a local console (i.e, when we connect a console using a windows machine running HyperTerminal), remote console or a call-modem connection. S1 and S2 CANNOT be used to connect printers or UPS to the p510. WORKAROUND : You need to add external serial port card in order to get extra port. After installing serial port card and its driver, you have to select custom serial port while LanSafe installation and has to provide path of custom serial port(like /dev/dg/dgnc/ttyn1a). ITEM : PowerMonitor Crashes when changing Communication Settings on Power5 ITEM # : DESCRIPTION: Upon changing the Communication settings for a serially connected UPS on Power 5, the power monitor service will crash and lose communication to UPS. In that case above mentioned message will be displayed. To resolve that issue mount CDROM manually with mount option, like mount /dev/hda /media and then browse CD from media directory. ITEM : LanSafe does not Work with SUSE 9 if it is upgraded with Service Pack3 ITEM # : DESCRIPTION: WORKAROUND : Uninstall current LanSafe version and install it again from Software Suite CD. ITEM : Windows Console may not connect to localhost on RHEL4AS ITEM # : DESCRIPTION: In case you get 'Could not find Controller' message on windows console, you need to modify /etc/hosts file according to your hostname and IP address WORKAROUND : You may try the way shown in following example: Here the hostname is "FedoraCore-5-64" and IP of computer is "148.179.127.14". The changes need to be made on the LanSafeMember computer E.g. # ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------- # Do not remove the following line, or various programs # that require network functionality will fail. 148.179.127.14 FedoraCore-5-64 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEM : On Fedora Core 6, UPS with serial connection is not detected. ITEM # : 2504 DESCRIPTION: While installing LanSafe on Fedora Core 6 (32 & 64) or on RedHat EL 5 (32 or 64) bit using serial connectivity, no UPS is detected either automatically or manually WORKAROUND : Fedora Core 6 on Intel Xeon the serial port is occupied by xen console (default). To disable this we need to modify the below file. 1. Modify the following file menu.lst or grub.conf located at /boot/grub/. Modify the string "module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen ro root=LABEL=/1 rhgb quiet" with "module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen ro root=LABEL=/1 xencons=off rhgb quiet". 2. Modify the file rc.local, located at /etc/rd.d/ for loading the serial driver module whenever the system boot. Add the following command to the end of the file rc.local. modprobe 8250 Note: 8250:- it is the serial driver module. 3. Reboot the system. 4. Proceed for LanSafe software installation 5.3 Mac OS Issues ITEM : Broadcast User List ITEM # : DESCRIPTION: LanSafe 5.x uses the /etc/passwd file to generate a list of broadcast users. Unix systems generally use an etc/passwd file to manage user accounts. The Mac OS uses a database to manage user accounts. The Mac OS provides a default /etc/passwd file, but does not maintain or use the file. Apple suggests that a user does not modify the /etc/passwd file after initial installation. At this time LanSafe 5 will only be allowed to broadcast to the default users found in the /etc/passwd file. Note: the /etc/passwd file will contain extraneous text, do not select any text other than username to add to the broadcast list. WORKAROUND : ITEM : Mac OS X Installation does not auto detect UPS information ITEM # : 2073 DESCRIPTION: During the install script on Darwin, UPS information (manufacturer name, model description, serial number) is listed as unknown. WORKAROUND : None -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.0 General Troubleshooting Tips – Detection of UPSCodeII UPSs at Run Time If a UPS that communicates serially via the UPSCodeII protocol (for example, the Powerware 9305) is not detected when using the Communication Settings dialog box at run time, wait a few minutes and try the detect again. – LanSafe does not Work with Web Cards If you are not able to use LanSafe with a UPS communicating via an SNMP Web Card, you may need to install the Secure Sockets Certificate. You may also need to verify that the Community Name is correct on the Web/SNMP card. Refer to the ConnectUPS documentation for more information. – USB Communication Problems If you experience problems when using LanSafe communicating with a UPS via USB, review the ReadMe document for the UPS Driver. – Uninstall on Unix Running the uninstall script on Unix systems deletes all files and directories with the exception of the install directory (By default, this is /usr/Powerware/LanSafe/). You must manually delete the 'LanSafe' and 'Powerware' directories. - Windows Control Panels and LanSafe Installation Leaving Control Panels such as the Services Control Panel open during installation can prevent the LanSafe service and other components from being installed properly. Close all Windows Control Panel windows before installing the software. – ConnectUPS Web/SNMP You must configure your ConnectUPS device so that the "Load Segment to Restart following the return of AC Line" setting is "No" for each load segment. This setting is displayed on the Configuration>UPS Shutdown and Restart Settings page. Note: The "Delay Before" setting on the far right must be a valid value (between 30 to 3600 seconds) in order to set the load segment values. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.0 Supported Third-Party UPSs -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Sola - Sola 8000 - Sola 4000 - Sola 3010 - Sola 1000 - Sola 640 - Sola 625 - Sola 530 - Sola 305 * HP/Compaq - T2200 XR - T1500 XR - T1000 XR - T700 - R12000 XR - R6000 - R3000 XR - R1500 XR - Legacy * Densei-Lambda - Densei-Lambda 9126 * NCR - 4093 Series - 4091 Series - 4084 Series - 4072 Series - 4071 Series - 4070 Series - 4052 Series - 4054 Series - 4074 Series * Unisys - UPS 9170 - UPS 9125 - UPS 5115 - PM Series - UP800 - UP6000 - UP700M - PR Series - UPR - PRC - PRB - PRA - UPS5125 * Stabiline - SP Series - SL Series - SW Series - SPW Series * Superior Electric - SPW Series - SL Series - SW Series - SWR Series * APC - Smart-UPS - Matrix - Symmetra - Silcon - Back-UPS 12
